Here is a pro-Union Civil War Envelope. It shows Colonel Elsworth being shot at a hotel in Baltimore as he was removing a Confederate flag (May 24,1861). Colonel Elsworth was a close friend of Abe Lincoln and was one of the first Union officers to be killed in the conflict. It measures 3 3/16″ by 5 1/2″ and is in fair condition with some spots and creases on the left side.

Civil War Patriotic Envelope – The Death of Colonel Elsworth

Here is a pro-Union Civil War Envelope.  It shows Colonel Elsworth being shot at a hotel in Baltimore as he was removing a Confederate flag (May 24,1861). Colonel Elsworth was a close friend of Abe Lincoln and was one of the first Union officers to be killed in the conflict.  It measures 3 3/16″ by  5 1/2″ and is in fair condition with some spots and creases on the left side.  The envelope is marked “Entered according to Act of Congress 1861 by J.G. Wells, clerk’s office of the Southern District of New York.” on the back.   Look for other Civil War covers and letters to be added to my website.
