Here is a brass uniform button from the Civil War period with and “I” for Infantry (Union Army). You will find other initial uniform buttons with “A” for Artillery, “D” for Dragoons, “C” for Cavalry, and “R” for Rifleman. The Infantry was the most common of these Civil War Uniform buttons.  It measures 7/8″ across and is in excellent condition.

Here is a brass uniform button from the Civil War period with and “I” for Infantry (Union Army).   You will find other initial uniform buttons with “A” for Artillery, “D” for Dragoons, “C” for Cavalry, and “R” for Rifleman.  The Infantry was the most common of these Civil War Uniform buttons.   The back is marked Waterbury Button Co. / Waterbury Con.  It measures 7/8″ across and is in excellent condition.  These buttons were used for many years after the Civil War.
