Smith, a Republican, ran for Mayor of Los Angeles in 1909.  He lost to George Alexander  – 20,291 vs 16,964  (less than 40,000 voters in 1909 – look at Los Angeles now).   This large pinback  measures 1 1/2″ across and is in good condition.   The curl and the backpaper are marked “Wm. H. Hogee Co / Los Angeles.”
